I don’t review every book I read, but I had to write up this one. I can see why this book has done so well: it has one of those intriguing hooks that literally makes a person go, “I have to read this.” Pretty cool it’s going to be a TV series starring Jennifer Garner.
Here’s the premise: Hannah and Owen haven’t been married that long, but Hannah knows she’s found the one. Owen’s the kind of guy you can’t help but love, especially because of his amazing relationship with his teen daughter, Bailey. Hannah can only hope her and Bailey’s relationship will one day be even half that good, but Bailey’s taking a while to let her new step-mother get close.
Then Owen suddenly and inexplicably disappears, and Hannah and Bailey are thrown together as they try to figure out what’s happened to him. Something strange is going on, and Hannah soon realizes they may be in more danger than she first thought. After all, the last thing Owen told her before he disappeared was, Protect her.
Her, meaning Bailey.
THOUGHTS: I’m not really sure how you can’t like a book like this (I’d love to hear from anyone who read this and didn’t like it!). Besides it being well-written and having characters you care about (the two main things I look for), the author keeps you turning pages because she’s already nabbed your curiosity with the premise. A definite must-read.
